THE HOPE OUTDOOR GALLERY
1000 IMAGES AND STORIES
Wow what a place! 1000 images and stories become a great message of hope. More than just a gallery is the HOPE OUTDOOR GALLERY in Austin, Texas.
The characteristic history reinforces the philosophy. When the property owners were unable to use the land due to some zoning problems, it became a popular spot for graffiti. Instead of blaming the artworks to be vandalism, they have encouraged the actions. Together with the organization HOPE (Help Helping Other People Everywhere) they created a place of expressions in image and action for a sense of community.
The concrete walls of the three-storey unfinished building have become a large gallery of street art, murals and personal and common expressions. Here is a place for great and tiny messages to be discovered. Some of them are funny, entertaining or bizarre. Other critical disturbing or provocative. All of them are stimulating and peaceful at the location where they were created.
It is worth to visit to get lost in the images and messages, to linger and observe the artists as well as to enjoy from the very top the stunning view of the city.
More than just a gallery, it is a constantly changing complex for the community and an expression of Austin and its unique character. Visitors and artists come from far away to convey themself or to get inspired.
