LIGHTED MESSAGE

A HIGHLIGHT INSTALLATION – BIG, STRONG AND STILL WARM

As we walked through the historic district in Fort Myers in Florida a light installation entitled “Caloosahatchee Manuscripts” touched us. The glowing letters from Jim Sanborn catching the eye to the former Post Office in its neoclassical architecture, which now houses the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center.

The artist incised letters with a water jet cutter into each drum and bathe the street and surrounding walls in a soup of letters at night.

We love the workmanship and the impact. A mechanism, which makes a message so great but conveys it on such a warm way.

You can find more about this artwork and its contents here and on the website of the artist Jim Sanborn. And check out the website of the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center to learn more about the house for dance, theater, music, film, art exhibitions and workshops.

Wow. Not only the pictures are so beautiful – all of them not just the lighted message ones – but the art installation itself is so original and I can only imagine the feeling of seeing it live.
